Careers in Teaching and Learning
During your experience as a TA, you build up an arsenal of transferable skills: organizing, public speaking, facilitating, providing verbal and written feedback, and so much more. While teaching experience is certainly applicable to continuing a career in academia, there are just as many possible career paths outside of academia where you can apply your experience and skills. In this workshop, presenters will relate teaching skills to careers in industry, the public sector, and higher education. You will identify the unique strengths you've developed during your teaching experience as well as plan next steps toward pursuing the career paths that interest you.

Active Learning Strategies: Humanities, Arts and Social Science
Discussion sections are often the most rewarding part of class. Yet, as moderators of these discussions, TAs are frequently concerned that they will be staring at blank faces for an hour. This workshop will go over the principles of active learning and how to implement active learning strategies in your classrooms. You will take home strategies for designing good discussion questions, promoting active reading, and eliciting participation from reluctant students.
